Following the Pulwama attack, India launched strikes against terrorist bases in Pakistan. Jaishankar stated: India makes decisions based on its interests; Trump's claims are baseless.
New Delhi: India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, has reiterated that India's foreign policy is not influenced by external pressure but is solely based on the nation's national interests. During a recent interview with the Dutch government channel NOS while on a European tour, he openly discussed India's 'Operation Sundar' against Pakistan and US President Donald Trump's recent statements.
India's Clear Intention Behind Operation Sundar
Jaishankar stated that the terrorist attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22nd was not only inhumane but also a conspiracy to harm tourism and communal harmony. He said, "Following this attack, India sent a clear message that any recurrence would be met with a very b response. Terrorists, whether in Pakistan or elsewhere, will not be spared."
He further added that Operation Sundar was not merely a retaliatory action but a strategic message that India would no longer tolerate attacks silently.
Trump's Claims on the Ceasefire and India's Stance
Donald Trump recently claimed significant contribution to the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, attributing the de-escalation to his trade negotiations and diplomatic efforts. However, India completely rejected this claim, stating that the role of any third party on issues like Jammu and Kashmir would not be accepted.
Jaishankar clarified that India is a sovereign nation and makes decisions based on its interests, not external pressure. He stated, "The US must understand that India's policy is independent and self-reliant."
Direct Attack on Pakistan: 'Leadership Making Decisions Based on Religious Ideology'
Regarding Pakistan, Jaishankar stated unequivocally that the leadership, particularly the military, continues to make decisions based on religious ideology. He also clarified that India's actions were solely against terrorism, not against any particular country. "We are targeting terrorists, wherever they may be hiding," Jaishankar said.
Ceasefire Agreement, but Vigilance Continues
He explained that while there is currently a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, it is based on mutual agreement, and India remains vigilant. India is prepared for any unforeseen circumstances. He stated that the operation was not a 'dormant' action but a firm message that the world has taken seriously.
Foreign Minister Also Speaks on Trade Relations with the US
Jaishankar also clarified that negotiations on trade with the US are ongoing, and b relations remain between the two countries. He said that reaching any conclusion before the completion of negotiations would be premature.
