Following the ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, the path is clear for the remaining IPL 2025 matches. In light of this, the BCCI may release the revised schedule for the remaining matches on Monday.
Sports News: The long-standing speculation regarding the resumption of the remaining IPL 2025 matches is nearing its end. Postponed for a week due to the tense situation between India and Pakistan, the new schedule for the much-anticipated tournament's remaining matches could be released on Monday. Sources suggest the tournament may restart on May 16th or 17th, with the final likely to be held in Ahmedabad.
Serious Deliberations Between BCCI and Governing Council
On Sunday, a crucial meeting took place between BCCI officials and the IPL Governing Council, where the resumption of the remaining tournament was intensely discussed. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla stated that the board is preparing a suitable schedule and considering all options. No final decision has been made yet, but consultations are ongoing with all stakeholders.
According to Shukla, the BCCI secretary and IPL chairman are in constant contact with franchise owners and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth and safe restart.
Instructions to Players to Return
According to sources within the IPL, all teams have been instructed to immediately recall their players to India. The process of resuming the tournament has been expedited, and the first match is expected to be between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore, originally scheduled for May 9th in Lucknow.
Sources stated that franchises have been clearly informed that they must reorganize their teams as the remaining matches of the tournament need to be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Final Shifting from Kolkata to Ahmedabad?
There are unlikely to be many changes to the venues for the playoff matches. Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator are likely to remain in Hyderabad. However, Kolkata's status for the final is uncertain. According to weather forecasts, heavy rain is expected in Kolkata on June 1st, which could affect the final match.
Therefore, the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council are considering Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as a backup venue for the final. This stadium is considered an ideal option not only for its modern facilities but also for its spectator capacity.
Delhi and Dharamshala Ruled Out as Hosts
Matches in the remaining IPL 2025 season are likely to be held in only four major venues. Delhi and Dharamshala have been dropped from this list as tournament-related equipment has already been removed from these locations. This clearly indicates that the BCCI wants to complete the tournament within a limited and controlled framework.
BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia stated that formal permission from the Indian government is required for the IPL's resumption. He clarified, "We are working with the broadcasters, sponsors, and state associations to make all necessary preparations. The final decision will be taken only after receiving government approval."
