Ingredients
- 500 grams fresh spinach
- 200 grams paneer, cubed
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/4 cup cream (optional)
- 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
- Salt to taste
Method
- Prepare the spinach: Wash the spinach thoroughly, boil it, then cool and blend it into a puree.
- Fry the paneer: Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the paneer cubes until lightly golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- Make the masala: Add cumin seeds to the same pan. Once they splutter, add the onions and sauté until golden brown. Then add the ginger-garlic paste and green chili and sauté for a few minutes.
- Add tomatoes and spices: Add the tomato puree, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt. Cook the spices until the oil separates.
- Add spinach puree: Now add the spinach puree and cook for 5-7 minutes over medium heat.
- Add paneer and cream: Add the fried paneer and garam masala. If you prefer a creamier texture, add cream. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Serving Suggestion
- Serve the Palak Paneer hot with roti, naan, or jeera rice. Garnish with a little cream or butter.
Tips
- To preserve the spinach's freshness, plunge it into cold water immediately after boiling.
- Soak the paneer in warm water for 10 minutes before frying; this will keep it soft and juicy.
- For a healthier version, use yogurt instead of cream.
