Meerut Receives Major Boost from CM Yogi: ₹15,000 Crore Investment for 93 Development Projects

UP News: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled a ₹15,000 crore "Integrated Development Plan" for the comprehensive development of Meerut city. He emphasized that Meerut is not just a historical or industrial city, but the state government prioritizes developing it as a hub for sports, education, culture, and commerce.

What is the Integrated Development Plan?

This plan proposes 93 development projects, six of which have already commenced. The Chief Minister described the plan as a "milestone" in Meerut's holistic development. He explicitly instructed that every project must be completed transparently, within the stipulated timeframe, and according to quality standards.

Modernity with a Cultural Identity

CM Yogi stated that while preserving Meerut's cultural heritage, it will be transformed into a smart and modern city. Cultural and historical sites such as Surajkund, Victoria Park, ponds, and Sanjay Van will be revitalized. "Meerut Mandapam" will be developed as a major center for cultural events.

Smart Meerut: A Strong Part of Digital India

According to CM Yogi's plan, only digital hoardings will be permitted in the city. Furthermore, the entire city will be connected through a CCTV network to strengthen security and surveillance. This technology will play a crucial role in traffic control, crime monitoring, and public safety.

Special Focus on Sanitation and Environment

The Chief Minister directed the swift implementation of door-to-door waste collection, river rejuvenation, and sanitation initiatives. The plan also aims to develop Meerut as an eco-friendly city. Promoting electric vehicles and building sewage and drainage systems to meet future needs are integral parts of this plan.

Smart Roads and Ring Roads to Ease Traffic Congestion

Under the "CM Grid Meerut" plan, major city roads will be upgraded to smart roads. This includes modern infrastructure such as underground utility ducts, LED lights, sidewalks, and signage. The construction of the Western Ring Road (52 km) and Inner Ring Road will alleviate traffic pressure within the city.

Meerut to Become a Jewellery Hub

To promote Meerut's traditional jewellery craftsmanship, it will be developed as a jewellery hub. Artisans will receive shared workspaces, modern equipment, and marketing support. This will generate employment and create a unique identity for the city.

City Development through Public Participation

The Chief Minister stated that suggestions from Hackathon 2.0 have been incorporated into the plans. The future of Meerut will be shaped by the continued participation of the general public and elected representatives. He directed the Municipal Corporation, Development Authority, Housing Development Board, and other departments to work in coordination.

Meerut Can Become a Model City for the State

CM Yogi, highlighting the "Integrated Divisional Office" plan as directly connected to the public, stated that its external design should reflect Meerut's cultural identity. He also mentioned that strengthening infrastructure is crucial considering the potential increase in population and per capita income.
