BJP Leader Mohsin Raza Criticizes Misuse of Waqf Property
BJP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister, Mohsin Raza, has accused some Muslim leaders of misleading the community regarding Waqf properties. He claims that these properties, donated by individuals, are being wrongly presented as belonging to Allah and have been appropriated by certain self-proclaimed religious leaders.
"Waqf Not an Essential Part of Islam": Mohsin Raza
Raza stated that Waqf is not mentioned in the Quran nor mandated by Allah. He argues that considering Waqf as an essential Islamic practice is incorrect. He supports the Waqf Amendment Act, believing it will ensure better oversight and transparency in the management of Waqf properties.
Serious Allegations Against Muslim Religious Leaders
Raza alleges that some Muslim religious leaders are misusing Waqf properties for personal gain, neglecting the welfare of the community and the poor. He accused them of claiming these properties belong to Allah to justify their control.
Supreme Court Involvement
The matter has reached the Supreme Court, where the central government's lawyer clarified that Waqf is not an essential part of Islam but a charitable process. The government argues that a Waqf board is a secular institution, unlike a religious institution such as a temple, thus precluding direct comparison.
Waqf Property and Politics
Raza claims that several Muslim leaders possess significant Waqf properties and are now resisting accountability. He alleges that the Muslim community has been misled in the name of Waqf properties.
Opposition and Muslim Organizations Express Discontent
While BJP leaders support the amendment, Muslim organizations and opposition parties bly oppose it, viewing it as an infringement on the religious rights of the Muslim community and demanding its revocation.
