India-Pak Ceasefire: Amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, both nations have agreed to a unilateral ceasefire. This agreement follows a terrorist attack in Pulwama, India, which claimed 26 lives. The attack led to heightened cross-border conflict with Pakistan. However, despite the ceasefire announcement, India has decided to continue several crucial actions against Pakistan. Let's understand these ongoing measures.
1. Continued Pressure on Pakistan Despite Ceasefire
Although a ceasefire has been declared, India's 'Operation Sundar' and other stringent measures against Pakistan will continue. The Indian Army conducted precise strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Subsequently, Pakistan launched missiles and drones across the Line of Control and International Border, which were successfully neutralized by Indian air defense systems.
2. Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty
The Indian government has decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. According to government sources, this treaty will remain suspended even while the ceasefire with Pakistan is in place. This decision aims to exert additional pressure on Pakistan and deter cross-border terrorist attacks.
3. Atari Integrated Check Post Remains Closed
The Atari-Wagah border crossing has been completely shut down following heavy traffic. This impacts the India-Pakistan integrated check post, previously used for cross-border movement of goods and passengers. This check post will remain closed for at least a week.
4. Trade Restrictions
India continues to maintain a ban on all imports from Pakistan, whether direct or through intermediary countries. Furthermore, Pakistan-registered ships are prohibited from entering Indian ports. Similarly, Indian ships are barred from accessing Pakistani ports.
5. Airspace Closure
India continues to keep its airspace closed to all flights to and from Pakistan. This measure, initially implemented on April 30th, remains in effect. Consequently, international flights transiting through Pakistan are also affected.
6. Ban on Pakistani Artists
India maintains its ban on actors and artists from Pakistan. Additionally, OTT platforms and media streaming services operating in India have been instructed to remove Pakistani web series, films, songs, podcasts, and other digital content.
7. Visa Services Suspended for Pakistani Citizens
The Indian government has suspended all visa services for citizens arriving from Pakistan. This decision, made following the Pulwama attack, initially ordered Pakistani citizens to leave India by April 27th. While medical visas were initially allowed for a short period, they have now also been revoked.
