Pahalgam Terror Attack: Following the recent heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government has intensified its diplomatic efforts on the international stage. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with several foreign ministers from around the world, sharing India's concerns. He unequivocally stated that India will not tolerate terrorism at any level and that those responsible for this attack will be brought to justice.
Direct Dialogue with the United Nations Secretary-General
Minister Jaishankar spoke with the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, António Guterres, over the phone. During this conversation, he bly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and advocated for bringing the perpetrators, planners, and supporters of the attack to justice. Jaishankar also emphasized the need for the United Nations to adopt a ber stance against terrorism.
Contact with UNSC Non-Permanent Members
Jaishankar also engaged in discussions with the foreign ministers of the non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) – Slovenia, Panama, Algeria, and Guyana. He briefed these nations on India's policy and expressed gratitude for their solidarity in the face of this attack.
Guyana, Slovenia, and Algeria's foreign ministers expressed solidarity with India and affirmed their support for India's stance against terrorism. Panama's Foreign Minister, Javier Martínez, also conveyed a message of support for India.
India's Message to the World – Zero Tolerance for Terrorism
Jaishankar made it clear that India will not tolerate terrorism in any form. He stated that this attack was not just an attack on India, but on all of humanity. He emphasized the need for the world to unite against terrorism and take decisive action.
Engagement with Global Leaders
Following the attack, heads of state from countries including the United States, France, Israel, Japan, Australia, UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Italy, Sri Lanka, and Nepal spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing their support for India. These leaders condemned the attack and assured India of their full cooperation.
PM Modi's Stern Warning
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 'Mann Ki Baat' address, unequivocally stated that the perpetrators of this attack will face the strictest possible punishment. He granted the armed forces complete operational freedom to undertake necessary actions. To this end, he held meetings with the Defence Minister, National Security Advisor, and the chiefs of the three armed forces.
