The Odisha state government has decided to extend the metro rail service from Bhubaneswar Airport to Cuttack Bus Stand and SCB Medical College. A new DPR is being prepared for this extended route, replacing the earlier plan that ended at Trisulia.
Bhubaneswar. The Odisha government has taken a significant step towards launching a metro rail service between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The metro will now directly connect Bhubaneswar Airport to Cuttack Bus Stand and SCB Medical College, an expansion from the previously planned terminus at Trisulia. This decision will provide convenient and direct transportation for millions of commuters in both cities.
Government Revises Metro Route, New DPR Prepared
Housing and Urban Development Minister, Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, stated that this change was implemented to improve public convenience. A committee has been formed to study metro services in other cities across the country. A new Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being prepared and will soon be submitted to the central government. This project will be a joint endeavor of the state and central governments.
Target to Launch Metro Service by 2027
According to the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Authority, work on the metro project is progressing rapidly, aiming for operational commencement by the end of 2027. Soil testing for the metro track has been completed in various areas, with tests conducted up to a depth of 50-60 feet.
Metro to Run at 13 Feet Height; Proposed Stations Listed
The metro track will be constructed at a height of 13 feet to avoid obstructing road traffic. The height may vary in certain areas like Rajmahal, Jaydev Vihar, and Barang, as required.
