The latest ICC rankings reveal some interesting shifts. While the top 5 batsmen remain unchanged, the movement in the lower ranks highlights how rankings are influenced not only by individual performance but also by the performance of others and point differentials.
ICC T20i Rankings: This week's ICC T20 batsman rankings show interesting developments. While the top five batsmen retained their positions, the mid-table and top-20 witnessed considerable fluctuation. The most surprising gain was by India's young batsman, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who jumped two places without playing a single T20 international match. Conversely, Pakistan's veteran batsman and former captain, Babar Azam, continues his downward trend.
Jaiswal Jumps, Babar Azam Slides
Yashasvi Jaiswal, currently not a part of India's T20 team, climbed two spots in the rankings. This is a testament to the ICC's rating system, which considers recent performance, form, and past match performances. Jaiswal now sits at rank 11 with 661 rating points.
On the other hand, Babar Azam, once a fixture in the T20 top 3, continues to fall. The latest update shows a three-place drop, placing him at number 12. Babar's current rating is 661, equal to Jaiswal's, but his lower ranking reflects his recent inconsistent form.
Not Just Babar, Rizwan Also Slips
Besides Babar, another Pakistani veteran, Mohammad Rizwan, also slipped in the rankings, dropping one place to 13th. His current rating stands at 654. These figures suggest that the form and roles of both experienced Pakistani batsmen are now under scrutiny.
In the latest ICC T20 batsman rankings, Australia's Travis Head remains at number 1 with 856 points, his recent innings maintaining his top spot. India's young batsman, Abhishek Sharma, also secured second place with 829 points due to consistent b performances.
Following them are England's Phil Salt (815), India's Tilak Varma (804), and Suryakumar Yadav (739) in third, fourth, and fifth positions respectively. Suryakumar's ranking has remained stable in recent months, although his performance hasn't been as explosive as expected.
Sri Lanka and New Zealand Players' Performance
England's Jos Buttler (735) is ranked 6th, followed by Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka (714) at 7th, and New Zealand's Tim Seifert (708) at 8th. Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera gained one position and is now 9th with a rating of 676, tied with South Africa's Reeza Hendricks.
Jaiswal's ranking shows that world cricket is starting to take the strength of India's young batsmen seriously. His explosive innings in the IPL and domestic cricket have already established him as a potential star. While he is not currently a regular in India's T20 team, this ranking suggests that consistent opportunities could quickly propel him into the top 10.
