Lucknow Super Giants' young fast bowler, Mayank Yadav, has suffered another injury in IPL 2025, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. This injury comes just as the IPL is set to resume on Saturday, May 17th.

Sports News: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a significant setback in the exciting phase of IPL 2025. Key young fast bowler Mayank Yadav is once again out of the tournament due to injury. On May 15th, the franchise issued an official statement regarding the 22-year-old, who is battling a back injury, confirming his unavailability for the remaining matches of IPL 2025. Meanwhile, LSG has signed New Zealand fast bowler William O'Rourke as his replacement.

Mayank's Recurring Injuries Raise Concerns

Expectations for Mayank Yadav were incredibly high. In 2024, he created a sensation in the cricketing world with his lethal pace and accurate line and length. His deliveries frequently exceeded 150 km/h. However, recurring injuries have begun to impact his career. He has previously been sidelined for extended periods due to hamstring and back problems. A comeback was anticipated in 2025, but his old back injury resurfaced after just two matches.

A senior LSG official stated, "Mayank's talent is exceptional, but his body is repeatedly unable to withstand his pace. We wish him a speedy recovery and want to manage him for the future."

LSG's Focus on Will O'Rourke

The Lucknow Super Giants acted swiftly, incorporating New Zealand's young fast bowler, William O'Rourke, as Mayank's replacement. The 22-year-old O'Rourke has delivered impressive performances for New Zealand at both domestic and international levels. His pace, bounce, and control with the new ball have established him as a rising star.

The official IPL statement read, "Lucknow Super Giants have included William O'Rourke of New Zealand as a replacement for the injured Mayank Yadav. O'Rourke has been signed at a base price of ₹3 crore. O'Rourke's presence will bring a new energy and diversity to Lucknow's bowling attack, especially as the team enters the final stages of the league and potential playoffs."

Punjab Kings Also Make a Change

The list of injured players in IPL 2025 continues to grow. Following Mayank Yadav's injury, Punjab Kings also suffered a significant blow when their experienced fast bowler, Lockie Ferguson, was ruled out due to injury. They have replaced him with another New Zealander, Kyle Jamieson. Jamieson, capable of contributing with both bat and ball, was signed for ₹2 crore.
