Shubman Gill to Captain India in Historic England Test Series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced an 18-member Test squad for the upcoming tour of England, featuring several new faces. Young batsman Shubman Gill will captain the team.

Sports News: Team India is set to play a prestigious five-Test match series in England, starting June 20th, a series eagerly awaited by cricket fans. Finally, on May 24th, chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the Indian team at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The biggest change in this squad is the appointment of Shubman Gill as the new Test captain following the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket.

This Indian team, led by the young and talented Shubman, is being considered a new era for the nation. Furthermore, this squad includes three players making their debut in the Indian Test team. These players are Tamil Nadu batsman Sai Sudarshan, Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, and left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

Sai Sudarshan: A Rising Star

23-year-old left-handed batsman Sai Sudarshan has been included in the Test team for the first time. He recently showcased a stellar performance in IPL 2025, scoring over 2000 T20 runs in 54 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record. Sudarshan has also performed well in county cricket in England, giving him valuable experience playing in English conditions.

Arshdeep Singh: A New Pace Bowling Option

Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has also been selected for the Test team for the first time. He has taken 66 wickets in 21 first-class matches at an average of 30.37. Arshdeep's swing bowling could prove valuable for the team in English conditions.

Abhimanyu Easwaran: A Long-Awaited Opportunity

Abhimanyu Easwaran has also been included in the team. Although he has been part of the Test squad before, he is yet to make his debut. His consistent b performance in domestic cricket makes this a promising opportunity for him.
