MCD Standing Committee Election: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again dealt a major blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) politics, strengthening its hold. In the latest development, BJP candidate and councilor from Gautam Puri ward, Satya Sharma, defeated AAP candidate Hema in the election for a vacant seat on the MCD Standing Committee by 35 votes. This result is seen as a sign of renewed political energy for the BJP within the Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Satya Sharma Wins with 130 out of 227 Votes

In this election, held during a meeting of the MCD general assembly, a total of 227 votes were cast. Satya Sharma received 130 votes, while Hema received only 95. Two votes were declared invalid. Following this decisive victory, Satya Sharma will now become a member of the MCD Standing Committee, considered the most important decision-making body of the corporation.

Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh congratulated Satya Sharma on his victory, stating that his political experience will prove useful in the administration of the municipal corporation and public service. He also appreciated AAP candidate Hema's participation in the election, stating that competition is essential for a healthy democracy.

Who is Satya Sharma?

Satya Sharma is a councilor from Gautam Puri (Ward No. 226) and is considered a veteran BJP worker. Besides playing an active role in various organizational activities of the party, he has been raising issues related to public interest at the municipal corporation level for many years. His victory is being seen as a result of the party's policies and his connection with the people at the local level.

With this BJP victory, the party's position in the municipal corporation's standing committee has further strengthened. The 18-member committee now has 10 BJP members, giving it a clear majority. Earlier on Monday, the BJP had captured eight out of twelve zonal committees in internal elections.

Zonal Equation: BJP 8, AAP 4

The BJP now controls eight out of the twelve zones of the municipal corporation. The BJP won in Najafgarh, Shahdara South, Shahdara North, South Zone, Keshav Puram, Civil Lines, Narela, and Central Zone. The Aam Aadmi Party secured wins in Rohini, Karol Bagh, West, and City Sadar-Paharganj zones.
