Violent Clash in Delhi's Saket Court Results in Prisoner's Death
A violent clash between two groups of inmates at Delhi's Saket Court during a court appearance resulted in the death of one prisoner, Aman. The attack stemmed from an old rivalry, raising serious questions about court security.
Delhi Saket Court: On June 5th, 2025, a bloody altercation erupted in the lockup of Delhi's Saket Court between two prisoners due to a long-standing feud. One prisoner died as a result. The deceased has been identified as Aman, a resident of Govindpuri. This incident has raised serious questions about the security arrangements in court and jail premises.
Clash in Saket Court Lockup, One Prisoner Dead
A violent fight broke out on Tuesday between two prisoners brought to Delhi's Saket Court for their appearances. This clash occurred within the court premises' lockup (number 5). One inmate died in this violent confrontation, causing panic in the court complex. The incident occurred when several prisoners were brought to court for their hearings and were kept in the lockup. During this time, a fight broke out between two groups due to an old feud, which quickly escalated into a fatal attack.
Identity and Case of the Deceased Prisoner
According to the police, the deceased prisoner has been identified as Aman, son of Dharmendra (age 24), a resident of Govindpuri in South Delhi. A case under sections 307/34 IPC was registered against Aman in FIR number 250/2017. He was an undertrial prisoner (UTP) and was currently in judicial custody. Aman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after the assault, where he died during treatment.
Identification of the Attacking Prisoners
The police investigation revealed that two other prisoners attacked Aman:
- Jitendra alias Jitte, son of Jagdish
- Jaydev alias Baccha, son of Lal Chand
Both attackers had a previous dispute with Aman. This dispute reportedly originated in 2024 when Aman and Jitendra had a fight while outside prison. During that incident, Aman allegedly attacked Jitendra and his brother with a knife.
Due to this old rivalry, on Tuesday, Jitendra and Jaydev allegedly attacked Aman in the Saket Court lockup, reportedly strangling him to death.
Panic in the Court Premises
News of the incident spread quickly, causing chaos in the court premises. A large police force was immediately summoned, and senior officials arrived to assess the situation.
The lockup was immediately evacuated, and an investigation was launched, given the seriousness of the incident. After the event, special precautions were taken to ensure the safety of other prisoners brought for their appearances.
