A defamation lawsuit has been filed against Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraj Party. The case was filed by Ashok Chaudhary, a minister in the Bihar government. Chaudhary confirmed the matter to reporters on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
Prashant Kishor Defamation Case: Bihar's political landscape has once again heated up. Ashok Chaudhary, a minister under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has filed a defamation suit against Prashant Kishor (PK), the convener of the Jan Suraj Party and a prominent political strategist turned politician. This lawsuit follows a statement made by PK regarding Ashok Chaudhary's daughter and newly elected Member of Parliament, Shambhavi Chaudhary.
What is the issue?
Recently, during a press conference, Prashant Kishor leveled serious allegations against Ashok Chaudhary, claiming that he had secured his daughter's Lok Sabha ticket and her subsequent election through monetary means. This statement caused a stir in political circles. Following this, Ashok Chaudhary initiated legal action, first sending a legal notice to Prashant Kishor. In response to the notice, PK neither denied the allegations nor offered an apology, prompting the minister to file the defamation suit.
Minister Ashok Chaudhary's Retort
On June 3, 2025, Ashok Chaudhary openly discussed the matter with reporters. He stated, "A legal notice was sent to Prashant Kishor. His response did not indicate any remorse. He stands by his statement, which is completely baseless and false. Therefore, I have pursued legal recourse. He must either present evidence or publicly apologize."
He further added, "The daughters of our society are now progressing through education, but some people cannot accept this. My daughter, at just 25 years old, has become a Member of Parliament, leading people to believe that this could only be achieved through money. This thinking is wrong and will not be tolerated."
Prashant Kishor: A Trader of Political Parties
Chaudhary launched a scathing attack on PK, calling him a "trader of political parties." He alleged that PK has bought and sold numerous parties under the guise of strategy. "People like us engage in clean politics and work for public service," Chaudhary said. "Those who have turned politics into a business are now trying to demean us and the next generation."
He also emphasized that the case is not merely personal; it is a fight against a societal mindset that cannot accept the progress of Dalits, women, and youth.
Will Go to the Supreme Court
Ashok Chaudhary made it clear that he will not back down. He stated, "If necessary, we will fight this case all the way to the Supreme Court. We will not rest until justice is served. This is not just a question of my daughter's reputation, but the matter of all those daughters in society who strive for progress through hard work."
Prashant Kishor has yet to offer a substantial response to this entire episode. His legal response neither provided evidence supporting the allegations nor offered an apology, putting him in a precarious position. This legal crisis could pose a significant obstacle to PK's political comeback and his efforts to establish the Jan Suraj Party.
