Manipur: Political activity has intensified once again in Manipur. BJP leader Thokchom Radheshyam Singh met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday, claiming the support of 44 MLAs. He stated the urgency of forming a new government to address the people's concerns.

BJP Claims Support of 44 MLAs

Speaking to the media after meeting the Governor, Radheshyam Singh said, "The people desire a stable and b government in Manipur. We informed the Governor that we have the support of 44 MLAs. The state's populace has been grappling with conflict and uncertainty for years. We want a government formed swiftly to steer Manipur towards stability and development."

He mentioned that these 44 MLAs comprise 32 Meitei, 3 Manipuri Muslim, and 9 Naga MLAs. Additionally, 9 other MLAs also met with the Governor. He clarified that no one opposed the formation of a new government.

Meeting with the Governor: What transpired?

BJP leader Radheshyam Singh stated that the Governor listened attentively and assured him that a decision would be made promptly in the best interests of the people. Radheshyam Singh added, "We detailed Manipur's situation to the Governor and urged him to initiate the process of forming a new government. The people of the state are deeply troubled and yearn for stability."

Consultation with BJP's Central Leadership

BJP leaders stated that the final decision rests with the party's central leadership. In other words, senior BJP leaders in Delhi will determine how to proceed with the government formation process in Manipur. However, local leaders have made preparations and secured support.

No Opposition, Only Support

BJP leaders claimed that Speaker Satyabrata personally and collectively met with 44 MLAs. They stated, "No MLA opposes the formation of a new government. Everyone agrees that Manipur needs a stable government."

Manipur's Current Political Situation

It is noteworthy that Manipur has experienced extremely challenging circumstances since May 2023 due to ethnic clashes. Following the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned. Since then, President's rule has been imposed in Manipur.

The current assembly has 60 seats, but due to the death of one MLA, there are only 59 members. The BJP-led coalition has a total of 44 MLAs, including 32 Meitei, 3 Manipuri Muslim, and 9 Naga MLAs. The Congress has 5 MLAs, while 10 Kuki MLAs belong to different parties, including 7 who contested the previous election on BJP tickets, 2 from the Kuki People's Alliance, and 1 independent.

The Hopes of Manipur's People

For several months, the people of Manipur have lived under the shadow of political uncertainty, violence, and conflict. The lack of a stable government for an extended period has stalled development projects. Schemes related to education, health, and infrastructure are also at a standstill. In this context, the BJP's claim to form a government could bring relief to the people. They hope for a stable government soon to restore peace and accelerate development.

Awaiting the Green Light from the Center

All eyes are now on the BJP's central leadership. Will the central leadership approve the formation of a government in Manipur? Will the BJP be able to form a new government soon? Answers to these questions may emerge in the coming days.
