IPL 2025 to Resume on May 15th After India-Pakistan Tensions Ease

Relief is in sight regarding the IPL 2025 tournament, which was halted amidst India-Pakistan tensions. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has confirmed that IPL 2025 could resume on May 15th.

Sports News: Fans of the Indian Premier League 2025 have received welcome news. According to BCCI sources, IPL 2025, suspended due to escalating India-Pakistan tensions, may restart on May 15th. A crucial BCCI meeting is scheduled for today, May 11th, to discuss the tournament's revised schedule, venues for the remaining matches, and the availability of foreign players.

Why was IPL 2025 halted?

While IPL 2025 was progressing smoothly, the sudden escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan led to security concerns for players and the board. Foreign players, particularly, expressed unease about the political situation and decided to withdraw from the league, returning to their home countries. Subsequently, the BCCI immediately suspended the remaining tournament.

Rajiv Shukla Confirms Resumption

BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla, in conversation with PTI, clarified the importance of today's meeting. He stated, "Considering the current ceasefire, we will have decisive discussions regarding the IPL's future. We will consider plans for the tournament's resumption, along with reviewing new venues and security arrangements."

Sources indicate that Australian players have been informed, through their cricket board and franchises, about the possibility of IPL 2025 resuming on May 15th. Some players who had returned home are willing to come back to India, provided they receive security guarantees and schedule assurances from the government and franchises.

Where will the remaining matches be played?

ESPNcricinfo reports that the BCCI is planning to hold the remaining matches at three primary locations:

  • Bengaluru – M. Chinnaswamy Stadium
  • Chennai – MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk)
  • Hyderabad – Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium

The tournament was suspended during a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. This match will be replayed. A total of 17 matches remain, including 13 league matches and four playoff matches.
