Kolkata Knight Riders Defeat Delhi Capitals by 14 Runs in Thrilling IPL Match

In a thrilling encounter at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs, securing their place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoff race.

DC vs KKR: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), fueled by Angkrish Raghuvanshi's impressive 44-run knock, posted a challenging 204/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Delhi Capitals, chasing the target, put up a b fight but fell short, managing 190/9 and losing the match by 14 runs.

Raghuvanshi's Powerful Batting

Winning the toss, Delhi Capitals opted to bowl first. However, KKR countered this decision effectively, setting a robust 204-run target in their 20 overs. In response, Delhi Capitals could only manage 190 runs, resulting in a 14-run defeat. KKR's innings began with a solid 48-run opening partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine.

Gurbaz blazed to 26 runs off 12 balls, while Narine contributed 27. Ajinkya Rahane (26 runs) and Rinku Singh (36 runs) also played crucial innings in the middle order, but the real hero was Angkrish Raghuvanshi, whose magnificent 44 runs off 32 balls propelled KKR to a respectable total.

Stark Shines in Delhi's Bowling Attack

For Delhi, Mitchell Starc delivered a stunning performance, claiming three wickets to disrupt Kolkata's batting lineup. Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam each took two wickets, while Dushmantha Chameera secured one. Despite these efforts, Delhi's bowling attack ultimately proved slightly insufficient, with the run difference proving decisive.

Delhi's Wobbly Start, Du Plessis and Axar's Partnership

Chasing 205 runs, Delhi Capitals had a disastrous start. Anukul Roy dismissed Abhishek Porel for just 4 runs in the very first over. Karun Nair (15 runs) and KL Rahul (7 runs) followed suit cheaply, putting immense pressure on Delhi from the outset.

Delhi's situation seemed precarious, but Faf du Plessis and captain Axar Patel steadied the ship with a crucial 76-run partnership. Du Plessis notched his second half-century of the season, scoring 62 runs off 45 balls, while Axar contributed 43 runs. This partnership brought Delhi back into the contest, but Narine's bowling turned the tide back in KKR's favor.

Sunil Narine's Outstanding Bowling

Narine once again proved why he's considered one of T20 cricket's deadliest spinners. He snagged three crucial wickets, delivering a significant blow to Delhi's hopes. Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets, while Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, and Andre Russell each claimed one.

After the dismissals of du Plessis and Axar, Delhi's innings completely crumbled. Tristan Stubbs (1 run), Ashutosh Sharma (7 runs), and Mitchell Starc (0 runs) failed to make a significant impact. Vipraj Nigam fought valiantly with a 38-run knock, but it wasn't enough to secure victory.

This win takes Kolkata Knight Riders' points tally to 9, with a net run rate of +0.271. This victory is crucial for their playoff aspirations. Delhi Capitals remain in fourth place with 12 points but will need to approach their remaining matches with greater caution.
