Rohit Sharma Achieves 6000 IPL Runs for Mumbai Indians, Joining Elite Virat Kohli Club

Mumbai Indians' star batsman, Rohit Sharma, achieved a significant milestone on Thursday with a whirlwind half-century against the Rajasthan Royals. His explosive batting not only provided his team with a b start but also secured his place in an elite club alongside Virat Kohli.

Sports News: In the 50th match of the Indian Premier League 2025, Mumbai Indians' veteran opener Rohit Sharma created another historic moment for cricket fans on Thursday. In the match played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, Rohit Sharma not only smashed a blistering half-century but also became only the second player in IPL history to score 6000 runs for a single franchise. With this achievement, Rohit joined Virat Kohli's exclusive club, previously occupied solely by 'King Kohli'.

Rohit's Explosive Innings

Rohit Sharma was in full flow against the Rajasthan Royals. He scored 53 runs off just 36 balls, hitting nine fours. Thanks to his explosive innings, Mumbai Indians posted a massive 217 runs for the loss of two wickets in their allotted 20 overs. This innings brought Rohit's total runs for Mumbai Indians to 6024, including scores from the now-defunct Champions League T20. In the IPL alone, he has amassed 5751 runs for Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Joins Kohli in Elite Company

The record for most runs scored for a single team in the IPL still belongs to Virat Kohli, who scored 8447 runs in 262 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Rohit Sharma now stands second on this list:

  • Virat Kohli (RCB) – 262 matches, 8447 runs
  • Rohit Sharma (MI) – 231 matches, 6024 runs
  • Suresh Raina (CSK) – 200 matches, 5529 runs
  • MS Dhoni (CSK) – 268 matches, 5269 runs

A Stunning Comeback After a Slow Start

The start of IPL 2025 wasn't particularly impressive for the 37-year-old Rohit Sharma. He failed to produce significant innings in the first six matches, but he returned to form in the last four. In these four matches, he scored three half-centuries, proving that the 'Hitman' remains a significant threat to opposing bowlers.

Against Rajasthan Royals, Rohit shared a 116-run partnership for the first wicket with Ryan Rickelton. Rickelton also played a brilliant innings of 61 runs off 38 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. The explosive opening partnership dismantled Rajasthan's strategies from the outset.
