Responding to Karimi's post, actress Madhura Naik posted a lengthy Instagram story bly criticizing her. Naik stated that it was shameful and unacceptable for a foreign national, living comfortably in India, to make such statements against the country. She pointed out that Karimi had received work, recognition, freedom, and a platform in India, yet she was attempting to tarnish the nation's image with false accusations.
Naik explicitly stated that labeling India as "Hindu fascist" was not only factually inaccurate but a deliberate attempt to incite social unrest.
'India Will Not Tolerate Hatemongers'
In her post, Madhura Naik emphasized India's sovereignty and dignity, stating that upholding the nation's integrity was not only the duty of Indians but also of those residing in the country as guests. India would not tolerate hate speech or anti-national ideologies. She urged the Ministry of External Affairs and relevant departments to thoroughly investigate Karimi's statement.
She further stated that if Karimi violated Indian laws, appropriate legal action should be taken. Naik added that this case should set a precedent to deter other foreign nationals from misusing India's hospitality.
Karimi's Clarification, But Controversy Persists
Mandana Karimi has offered a clarification regarding her post, stating that she did not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments and was advocating for peace and human rights. However, her clarification has not appeared to quell public anger. Hashtags like #MandanaGoBack and #RespectIndia are trending on platforms like Twitter and Instagram. Many believe that an individual who earns and gains fame in a country and then criticizes it has no moral right to reside there.
The matter has also sparked reactions within political circles. Several organizations have demanded that the government take cognizance of the situation and, if necessary, revoke Karimi's visa or deport her. Some lawyers have suggested that if her statement is found to be against national security or integrity, cases under the IT Act and sedition charges could be filed against her.
