Reassuringly, the team arrived promptly and initiated a rescue operation, safely extracting the young man. The vigilance of local residents and the quick response of the rescue team saved the young man's life; otherwise, the incident could have had far more serious consequences.
What happened on the night of the accident?
Around 9:30 PM on Wednesday, residents of the Vijay Nagar area in Sikar heard a loud splash and the sound of a person falling into water. Initially, nobody suspected anything amiss, but within moments, they realized someone had fallen into the water. Upon rushing to the pit, they saw a young man struggling in the deep water. The alarmed residents immediately contacted the district administration and Civil Defence.
Civil Defence Team's Response
Upon receiving the report, the Sikar Civil Defence rescue team arrived on the scene within 15 minutes. Working amidst the water-filled pit and darkness, the team utilized ropes, torches, and life jackets to conduct the rescue operation. After approximately 25 minutes of effort, the young man was safely rescued and immediately transported to the district hospital.
Identification and Condition of the Young Man
The young man was identified as Manoj (approximately 28 years old), a resident of Ward Number 19 in Sikar. Doctors confirmed that he had lost his balance due to excessive alcohol consumption. His condition is currently stable, and he is out of danger.
Role and Negligence of the Administration
Local residents questioned the administration about the open pit, which lacked any warning signs or barricades. "We have complained to the Municipal Council several times, but there has been no response," a shopkeeper stated. Municipal Corporation officials visited the site and assessed the situation. They assured that such pits would be covered or barricaded in the future.

Following the incident, demands for a drug-free society gained momentum in the area. Youth organizations and social workers emphasized the need for counseling centers and awareness programs for young people struggling with addiction. Sikar City Police Station in-charge, Anil Chaudhary, stated that no legal action was taken against the young man, but he was cautioned about creating a public disturbance while intoxicated.
