Two laborers were killed in Lalitpur's Bigari village after being buried in a landslide during illegal sand mining. Villagers are demanding action against the mining mafia and compensation for the victims' families.
Lalitpur: A tragic and shocking accident occurred on Sunday night in the Talbehat area of Lalitpur district. Two laborers died after being buried in a landslide during sand mining in Bigari village. This incident has caused widespread grief and raised serious questions about illegal mining activities once again.
How did the accident happen?
This tragic incident occurred in Bigari village, Talbehat area, Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh. Several laborers were digging sand at night. Amar Singh (20 years old) and Naresh (23 years old), residents of Ganeshpura Khandi village, were extracting sand with their colleagues when a large quantity of earth suddenly collapsed. Both laborers were buried under the debris. Local residents and police rescued them, but both had already succumbed to their injuries. The accident happened so suddenly that no one had time to react.
Police and Villagers Recover the Bodies
Following the accident, nearby residents raised the alarm and called for help. The police arrived shortly thereafter. Villagers and police worked together to remove the earth to rescue those buried beneath. After considerable effort and time, the bodies of both laborers were recovered. The scene was extremely distressing. Eyewitnesses reported the speed of the collapse left no opportunity for anyone to escape or react. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination to facilitate further investigation.
Villagers Accuse Illegal Mining
Following the accident, anger was evident among the villagers. They claim that illegal sand mining had been ongoing for several days at the accident site. The mining mafia, without permission, used tractors and laborers to extract sand at night. Villagers allege that these mafia members operated with impunity, disregarding both authorities and the law.
When the accident occurred and the two laborers were killed, the mining mafia fled, abandoning their tractor. Villagers contend that if the administration had taken earlier action, these two lives might have been saved. The villagers now demand that the government and administration take strict action against the mafia to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure no more families suffer such a tragic loss.
Demand for Compensation and Assistance for Affected Families
The atmosphere in the village is somber following this tragedy. The two deceased laborers were the sole breadwinners for their families. The deaths of Amar Singh and Naresh have cast a pall of sorrow over their homes. Amar's father, Govind Singh, and Naresh's father, Praagi, are devastated by the loss of their sons.
Villagers have appealed to the administration for immediate compensation to provide some relief to these impoverished families. Villagers point out that these laborers were daily wage earners, and their deaths leave their families without support. The government and administration should step forward to provide financial assistance to help these families rebuild their lives.
Administration Takes Immediate Action; Investigation and Rescue Efforts Continue
Upon receiving news of the accident, SDM Bhupendra Singh immediately took action. He dispatched the charge Tehsildar, Ravindra Kumar, to the site to conduct a thorough investigation. The administration also suspects that more people may be trapped under the debris, therefore, rescue and relief operations are ongoing.
Given the seriousness of the incident, CO Abhay Narayan Rai and the in-charge Inspector Anurag Awasthi also arrived on the scene to assess the situation. However, the rescue operation faced significant challenges due to the late hour and the dense jungle surrounding the accident site, which hampered the recovery of the bodies.
