Raipur SP, Lal Ummed Singh, stated that the accident occurred around midnight on Sunday. Residents of Chatoud village, who had attended a Chhathi Puja ceremony in Bansri village, were returning home when their trailer collided with a truck near Saragaon. Thirteen people died at the scene, while 12 sustained serious injuries. The injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Among the deceased were 9 women and 4 children, spanning a range of ages. Police and administration immediately arrived at the scene, initiating rescue operations and providing immediate medical attention to the injured.
Administrative Response
Upon receiving news of the accident, Raipur Collector Gaurav Kumar Singh promptly dispatched a team to the scene and made arrangements for treatment at local hospitals. The Collector stated, "We received information about the accident at 12 midnight, after which we immediately sprang into action. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, and arrangements for their treatment are underway. We have assured all necessary assistance."
The cause of the accident remains unclear, but preliminary investigations suggest a high-speed collision between the trailer and the truck. Police have launched an inquiry against both drivers, investigating whether negligence or poor road conditions contributed to the accident.
