New Delhi: The four-day police remand of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan, has concluded. She will be presented before the court again on Monday. According to investigating agencies, data deleted from Jyoti's laptop and mobile phone has been recovered by the forensic lab and is undergoing thorough investigation by the police. It is likely that the police may seek further remand for data analysis and deeper interrogation.
New Clues from Forensic Investigation
Sources indicate that the police conducted a forensic examination of Jyoti Malhotra's electronic devices, recovering crucial deleted data from her laptop and phone. This data allegedly contains sensitive information and indications of suspicious foreign contacts. Additionally, two mobile phones belonging to Harpreet, a resident of Kurukshetra, were also sent to the lab, in an attempt to further connect the pieces of the case.
Bank Account Investigation Reveals No Significant Transactions
Police have also investigated Jyoti's bank accounts. Her Punjab National Bank account, opened in 2011-12, shows no significant transactions in the past three years. Furthermore, the account held less than ₹10 in the last year, resulting in its classification as dormant. Conversely, police suspect Jyoti recently travelled to countries like Pakistan, China, Dubai, and Thailand, staying in expensive hotels. The question now is: where did the money for these expenses come from?
Police have learned that Jyoti received some income through social media, particularly YouTube. However, this income only started in the last few months and is reportedly insufficient to support her foreign travels and high-end lifestyle. Police have also gathered information about her accounts with the State Bank of India to investigate the possibility of foreign funding.
