A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck late at night near the Greek island of Kasos. The tremors caused widespread panic, forcing residents to flee their homes. Authorities have issued an alert, and an assessment of the tsunami risk is underway.

Earthquake News: Greece has once again experienced a significant earthquake. This time, the quake measured 6.1 on the Richter scale. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred near the Greek island of Kasos at 1:51 AM local time. The tremors were so b that people fled their homes in fear during the night. The earthquake's tremors were felt in many parts of Greece.

Recent 6.3 Magnitude Earthquake

This is not an isolated incident. Just prior to this, on May 14th, Greece experienced another major earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale. That earthquake's epicenter was near the Greek island of Crete. The earthquake occurred in the morning and the tremors were b enough to cause widespread panic in the area.

Tsunami Potential Under Assessment

Following any major earthquake, the risk of a tsunami to coastal areas is assessed. After this earthquake, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) is evaluating the potential for a tsunami. No clear warning has been issued yet, but authorities are on high alert.

Previously, on the night of May 13-14, when a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck, a tsunami warning was issued for the southern coasts of Greece. Experts believe that these recurring earthquakes increase the likelihood of future marine disturbances.

Earthquake Tremors Also Felt in China

In addition to Greece, an earthquake recently occurred in China. On Friday, May 16th, 2025, at 6:29 AM (IST), tremors were felt. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), this earthquake had a magnitude of 4.5 and a depth of approximately 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was located at 25.05°N latitude and 99.72°E longitude.

Although the lower magnitude resulted in no reported casualties or damage, regional authorities advised residents to remain vigilant.
