Amidst rising tensions between Pakistan and India, Pakistan, fearing defeat, requested a ceasefire from India. Now, the US and China have entered the fray, each vying to present themselves as saviors.
India-Pak: The situation took a dramatic turn when Pakistan requested a ceasefire from India following escalating tensions between the two nations. Now, a competition has begun between the US and China to claim credit for the ceasefire's success amidst the heightened tensions. It appears that following the India-Pakistan dispute, the US and China are engaged in a contest to demonstrate the significance of their roles.
The US and China's 'Messianic' Competition
Amidst the India-Pakistan conflict, US President Donald Trump and the Chinese government attempted to outdo each other. The US claims that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan occurred due to their mediation. Trump announced this on social media, taking credit for the ceasefire. Furthermore, Trump stated that this peaceful resolution was a result of his efforts.
Meanwhile, China went a step further, stating its intention to strive for peace and stability in the region. In its statement, China also reassured Pakistan that it would maintain contact between the two countries and ensure regional stability.
China's Displeasure with Pakistan
An interesting aspect of this situation is that Pakistan sought help from the US to request the ceasefire. China is reportedly displeased with Pakistan for this, as it desired Pakistan to seek its assistance instead. China feels Pakistan should have directly sought help from China rather than accepting US mediation.
Earlier, India clarified that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) had personally called to request a ceasefire, and that Pakistan had contacted the US in this regard. This clearly indicated that Pakistan chose the US as a mediator for the ceasefire, which irked China.
Competition Between the US and China
This competition for 'credit' between the US and China was not limited to social media posts. China criticized Pakistan in a phone call and then presented its perspective on the ceasefire. Pakistan subsequently welcomed China's statement and said it would remain in contact with China to bring stability to the region.
