Chennai Super Kings' performance in the IPL 2025 season fell short of expectations, but in their final matches, they proved they could still upset anyone. Led by MS Dhoni, CSK defeated KKR by two wickets, significantly hindering KKR's playoff hopes.

Sports News: Chennai Super Kings registered their third win in IPL 2025, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in a thrilling match by two wickets. In this match played at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, KKR, winning the toss and batting first, scored 179 runs for six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Chennai's start to their chase was shaky, but thanks to brilliant innings from Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube, they reached the target in 19.4 overs, losing eight wickets. This victory not only provided CSK with a respectable end to their season but also dealt a blow to KKR's playoff aspirations.

KKR's Hopes Dashed

Chennai's win at Eden Gardens delivered a significant setback to KKR. Captained by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR now has only 11 points from 12 matches. While not officially eliminated from the playoff race, they must win their remaining two matches and rely on favorable results from other teams.

Kolkata Knight Riders, batting first after winning the toss, had a less-than-ideal start. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed early, but Ajinkya Rahane (48) and Sunil Narine (26) attempted to steady the innings. Russell, as usual, played a whirlwind innings, scoring 38 runs off 22 balls, while Manish Pandey (36*) guided the team to 179. For Chennai, Noor Ahmad bowled exceptionally well, taking 4 wickets and curbing Kolkata's scoring rate.

Chennai's Innings: Brevis-Dube Partnership Forms the Foundation of Victory

Chennai's chase began disastrously, losing 5 wickets for only 60 runs. However, young South African batsman Dewald Brevis took charge, smashing 52 runs off 25 balls, including four fours and four sixes. He was ably supported by the experienced Shivam Dube, who played a responsible innings of 45 runs.

Together, they added a crucial 67-run partnership, bringing Chennai closer to the target. Finally, Dhoni (17*) and Anshul Kamboj (4*) played cautiously to finish the match. Chennai won the match by 2 wickets in 19.4 overs. For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora took 3 wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana claimed 2 wickets each. However, their inability to break the Brevis-Dube partnership proved costly.
