Mumbai Indians’ winning streak in the Indian Premier League 2025 continues unabated. In a match played on Thursday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, Mumbai defeated Rajasthan Royals by a resounding 100 runs, securing the top spot on the points table.
Sports News: Mumbai, batting first, put on a spectacular display, scoring a massive 217 runs for the loss of only two wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Their aggressive batting put immense pressure on the Rajasthan bowlers. In response, the Rajasthan team never looked like reaching the target, losing wickets at regular intervals. The entire team was bowled out for just 117 runs in 16.1 overs. Mumbai thus won the match convincingly by a huge margin of 100 runs.
Mumbai's Stormy Batting Display
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai Indians had a brilliant start. Openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma laid a b foundation with a century partnership for the first wicket. Both batsmen registered their third half-century of the season. Ryan Rickelton scored 61 runs off 38 balls, including eight fours and two sixes.
Rohit Sharma smashed 53 runs off 36 balls, guiding the team through the middle overs without pressure. Even after their dismissals, Rajasthan found no respite. In the final overs of the innings, Suryakumar Yadav and captain Hardik Pandya launched a blistering assault. Both remained unbeaten on 48 runs each, taking the score past 200. Suryakumar scored 48 runs off 24 balls, while Hardik achieved the feat in just 18 balls.
Mumbai Indians thus amassed a massive 217 runs for the loss of only two wickets in their 20 overs. For Rajasthan, Maheesh Theekshana and Riyan Parag took one wicket each, but they failed to contain the batsmen.
Rajasthan's Batting Collapse
Chasing a challenging 218-run target, Rajasthan Royals had a poor start. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the hero of the previous match, was dismissed for a duck, caught at mid-on off Deepak Chahar's bowling. Yashasvi Jaiswal then hit two magnificent sixes against Trent Boult, but was clean bowled by the same bowler in the same over.
From the outset, Mumbai's bowling attack put Rajasthan on the back foot. Batsmen like Nitish Rana (9), Dhruv Jurel (11), Riyan Parag (16), and Shubham Dube (15) struggled to score runs. Bumrah dismissed Riyan Parag and Hetmyer off consecutive balls, breaking the backbone of Rajasthan's innings. By the end of the powerplay, Rajasthan were reeling at 62/5.
Karn Sharma then took charge, and this leg-spinner, playing as an impact player, took two wickets in the 12th over, completely shattering Rajasthan's hopes. Trent Boult took his third wicket, dismissing Jofra Archer (30), effectively ending Rajasthan's innings.
Rajasthan's entire team was bowled out for just 117 runs in 16.1 overs, losing the match by 100 runs. This is their second-largest defeat in IPL history; their previous biggest loss was by 112 runs against RCB in 2023.
Mumbai's Sharp Bowling Attack
Trent Boult and Karn Sharma were the most impressive performers for Mumbai Indians, each taking three wickets. Bumrah took two, while Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya claimed one wicket each. Karn Sharma's spell proved decisive, as he attacked the middle order in the middle overs. Boult, meanwhile, provided early breakthroughs with his accurate line and length with the new ball.
