India secured a commendable third-place finish at the ISSF World Cup shooting competition held in Lima, Peru, winning a total of seven medals.
Sports News: India once again impressed at the ISSF World Cup shooting competition in Lima, Peru, winning seven medals to claim third place overall. While the final day brought some disappointments, Indian shooters made a b comeback, solidifying their position on the medal table.
India Wins 7 Medals in Total
Indian shooters showcased an impressive performance at the ISSF World Cup, winning a total of seven medals: two gold, four silver, and one bronze. Simranpreet Kaur Badar secured India's final gold medal in the women's 25m pistol event. This win ensured India maintained its b position, finishing third on the medal table.
Suruchi Singh's Outstanding Performance
The most memorable performance for India came from 18-year-old Suruchi Inder Singh. Suruchi reached new career heights, winning two gold medals in the competition. First, she won gold in the women's 10m air pistol event, defeating veteran Indian shooter Manu Bhaker, a prominent name in the sport. Suruchi's confidence and hard work earned her this prestigious medal.
Later, she teamed up with Saurabh Chaudhary to win gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, further showcasing her talent and adding another memorable moment for India.
Other Indian Medal Winners
Another notable performance came from Simranpreet Kaur Badar, who won gold in the women's 25m pistol event. India also won several other medals. In total, India won two gold, four silver, and one bronze medal, many of which were won in individual and mixed events.
China topped the competition with 13 medals (4 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze). The USA also won seven medals, like India, but secured second place based on the number of gold medals won. India maintained its b showing, finishing third overall with seven medals.
India's Disappointing Trap Mixed Team Performance
Despite India's b performance in many events, the Indian trap mixed team (Prithviraj Tondemann and Pragati Dubey) failed to qualify for the medal round, scoring a combined 134 – insufficient for a top-four finish. Similarly, the pair of Lakshya and Neeru also missed the medal round with a score of 128. Only the top four teams advanced to the final round in this event, and India's performance here brought some disappointment on the final day.
This competition demonstrated the skill and confidence of Indian shooters. However, questions remain regarding India's performance in upcoming competitions. This World Cup could prove significant in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics, providing valuable experience and boosting confidence for Indian shooters.
