Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has advocated for the demonetization of ₹500 notes to curb corruption, proposing a system relying solely on smaller denominations.
New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has suggested the demonetization of ₹500 notes as a measure to combat corruption in India. He called for the complete elimination of high-value currency notes. Naidu also shared his views on freebie schemes, caste and skill-based censuses, the importance of the Hindi language, and the future of Amaravati and Hyderabad. He emphasized that policy changes and the effective use of technology are crucial for the nation's progress.
₹500 Note Demonetization Advocated
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu argues that high-value currency fuels corruption and advocates for the demonetization of the ₹500 note. He believes that corruption will persist as long as large denominations remain in circulation. He suggested that only denominations below ₹200 should be allowed, reducing cash transactions and promoting digital payments for greater transparency.
"Freebies" Term Critiqued
When questioned about freebie schemes, Naidu criticized the term as misleading. He highlighted the limited welfare schemes of the past, noting the significant expansion under NTR's leadership as Chief Minister, introducing numerous beneficial programs for the needy.
Naidu observed that while wealth is being generated, the gap between the rich and poor is widening, necessitating welfare schemes with clear objectives and robust implementation.
Census Incorporating Caste, Skill, and Economic Status
Naidu proposed a comprehensive census encompassing caste, skill-based, and economic data. He stressed the power of data in shaping effective public policy.
Learning Hindi Viewed Positively
While Hindi often faces resistance in South India, Naidu holds a different perspective. He stated, "Our mother tongues – Telugu, Tamil, Kannada – are paramount and non-negotiable. However, there's no harm in learning Hindi." He believes learning Hindi will improve communication across the country and foster national unity.
Amaravati and Hyderabad Projected as Global Cities
Addressing concerns surrounding the Amaravati greenfield project, Naidu expressed confidence in its long-term vision. He recalled similar doubts surrounding the Hyderabad project, highlighting its eventual success. He predicts that Amaravati and Hyderabad will become leading cities not only in India but also globally, emphasizing the importance of smart, planned urban development.
