Maruti's Market Share Declines According to FADA Data

According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), Maruti Suzuki sold 138,021 vehicles in April 2025, resulting in a market share reduction to 39.44 percent. Previously, in April 2024, the company sold 139,173 vehicles, holding a 40.39 percent market share. This represents a year-on-year decline of 0.95 percent in the company's share.

This change highlights a slight decrease in Maruti's sales, while other companies successfully capitalized on this decline, increasing their market share. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,671,559 vehicles in the fiscal year 2024-25, resulting in a 40.25 percent market share. However, the company may now need to revise its strategies to maintain its bhold.

Mahindra & Mahindra's Significant Gains

Mahindra & Mahindra witnessed the most significant gains in April of this year. The company sold 48,405 vehicles, achieving a 13.83 percent market share. With this figure, Mahindra surpassed Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor, securing second place. In April 2024, Mahindra sold 38,696 vehicles, holding an 11.23 percent market share and ranking fourth. This growth marks a crucial milestone for Mahindra, particularly reflecting their b position in the SUV segment.

Tata Motors Maintains Strong Position

Tata Motors sold 44,065 vehicles in April 2025, achieving a 12.59 percent market share. Tata Motors remains consistently in third place, maintaining its b performance. The company has also drawn considerable attention in the Indian market for its electric vehicles, which could further strengthen its position in the future. The surging demand for Tata's electric cars has benefited the company, enabling it to maintain its market share.

Hyundai Motor India's Decline

April 2025 proved challenging for Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL). The company sold 43,642 vehicles this month, resulting in a 12.47 percent market share. Previously ranked second, Hyundai has now slipped to fourth place. This decline may be primarily attributed to its newer models lagging in competition. Recently, Hyundai models have faced increased competition, particularly in the b SUV segment dominated by Mahindra and Tata.

FADA's data indicates intensified competition in the Indian automobile market. While Maruti Suzuki's share has decreased, Mahindra & Mahindra has strengthened its position. Tata Motors has maintained its third position, while Hyundai has experienced a setback. These changes might signal the need for companies to refine their strategies to maintain their market standing.
