New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata on Saturday for a two-day visit to West Bengal. During his visit, he inaugurated the new building of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Town, near Kolkata. This new state-of-the-art forensic lab aims to strengthen the criminal justice system not only in West Bengal but also in several states of Northeast India.
Furthermore, Amit Shah addressed BJP leaders and officials at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, where in-depth discussions regarding the party's strategy for the 2026 Assembly elections are expected to take place.
Significance of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory
During the inauguration ceremony, Amit Shah stated that the new CFSL building was constructed at a cost of approximately ₹88 crore. This laboratory will play a vital role in developing an evidence-based criminal justice system for West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Sikkim, and all the states in the Northeast. He explained that this forensic lab will help in handling complex criminal cases with speed and a holistic approach.
Shah also emphasized the importance of using science and technology to combat crime and make the justice process more effective. He highlighted that the scientific equipment and technologies associated with this lab will make it easier to catch criminals and investigate crimes. Amit Shah was received at the Kolkata airport by West Bengal BJP state president Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, senior party leaders Agnimitra Paul, Rahul Sinha, and other prominent leaders.
