BJP Leader Calls Rahul Gandhi "Modern-Day Mir Jafar" Over Questioning of Operation Sindur

BJP leader Amit Malviya has called Rahul Gandhi a modern-day Mir Jafar. He termed questioning the success of Operation Sindur as anti-national and accused Rahul Gandhi of speaking the language of Pakistan.

Rahul Gandhi: Amidst ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, political rhetoric has intensified. This isn't just about national security; it's evolved into a major ideological battle between the opposition and the ruling party. BJP's IT cell head, Amit Malviya, launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him a "modern Mir Jafar."

What's the Issue?

Following a recent terrorist attack in Pehalgam, India launched a major military operation codenamed Operation Sindur. This operation targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The government and military have declared it a successful mission.

However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the operation, asking:

  • Why was Pakistan informed of the attack beforehand?
  • How many aircraft did India lose?
  • What were the operation's achievements?

Rahul Gandhi demanded answers from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, stating that silence is a grave mistake. He termed it "not a lapse, but a crime."

BJP's Counterattack: 'Rahul is speaking Pakistan's language'

Angered by Rahul Gandhi's questions, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya targeted him on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He shared a picture juxtaposing half of Rahul Gandhi's face with half of Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir's face.

Malviya wrote, "Instead of congratulating the Prime Minister on the success of Operation Sindur, Rahul Gandhi repeatedly asks how many aircraft we lost. Is he expecting a Nishan-e-Pakistan in return?"

Why the Comparison to 'Modern Mir Jafar'?

Amit Malviya argued that Rahul Gandhi is behaving similarly to Mir Jafar in history. Mir Jafar was the commander of Bengal's Nawab Sirajuddaulah, who betrayed India by siding with the British in the Battle of Plassey.

Malviya claims Rahul Gandhi is speaking Pakistan's language from within the country, leading to the "modern Mir Jafar" label.

Rahul Gandhi's Allegation

Rahul Gandhi directly accused the External Affairs Minister, stating that Jaishankar publicly acknowledged that a message was sent to Pakistan before the operation. Rahul asked, "Who authorized this? How many aircraft did we lose? The nation has a right to know the truth."

He claims this isn't just a strategic blunder but a security breach demanding accountability.

Military and Government's Clarification

Air Marshal A.K. Bharti of the Indian Air Force responded that losses are inherent in wartime situations. The crucial question is whether the mission was accomplished, and the answer is "yes."

He stated that all pilots returned safely and the enemy suffered significant losses. However, he added that revealing further details during ongoing operations would compromise national security.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar also stated that Pakistan was only informed that terrorist bases, not military installations, were being targeted. This was aimed at preventing escalation.
