India enhances security for External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar by adding a bulletproof vehicle to his convoy. He already receives Z-category armed security from the CRPF and will now receive an upgraded security vehicle.
Dr. S. Jaishankar: Amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian government has increased the security detail for External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. This move by the central government is a direct response to a serious assessment of security threats emanating from Pakistan. An additional bulletproof car has been added to Minister Jaishankar's convoy, significantly bolstering his protection. This action underscores the government's commitment to the minister's safety, particularly given the heightened risks associated with current international relations and military tensions.
Jaishankar's Z-Category Security
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar already received Z-Category Security from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), providing protection for him and his family against potential threats.
This security has now been further enhanced. The new security arrangement will provide him with an upgraded security vehicle, further strengthening his protection during nationwide travel. This decision was taken particularly in view of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
Why the Increased Security for the External Affairs Minister?
This significant decision regarding the security of Dr. Jaishankar follows a recent assessment of heightened security risks. Given the tense environment between India and Pakistan, the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) decided to augment Dr. Jaishankar's security. Furthermore, in October of the previous year, his security was upgraded from Y-category to Z-category. Subsequently, the CRPF assumed full responsibility for his protection from Delhi Police.
Following the terrorist attack in Pulwama on April 22nd, India sent a b message to Pakistan through its military might. Tensions escalated significantly following this attack, leading to the decision to enhance the External Affairs Minister's security. In this context, Operation Sundar was also launched, targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan.
CRPF's Role and Security Scales
The CRPF currently provides security to over 210 VIPs across the country. This includes prominent figures such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, the Dalai Lama, and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Under these security measures, the CRPF deploys officers and personnel to protect these VIPs from potential threats.
Operation Sundar and the India-Pakistan Conflict
Launched by India on May 7th, Operation Sundar targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This operation resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. In response, Pakistan initiated cross-border shelling along the Line of Control and in Jammu and Kashmir, along with attempted drone attacks in border areas.
