Other states reporting cases include Delhi (104), Karnataka (100), Gujarat (83), Rajasthan (32), Madhya Pradesh (5), and Uttar Pradesh (30). Andhra Pradesh has also reported 2 active cases.

A total of 12 deaths have been reported across the country due to COVID-19. Eleven of these deaths are from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh. A recent death was also reported in Firozpur, Uttar Pradesh.

New Variants: What is the Risk?

The World Health Organization (WHO) is monitoring the new COVID-19 variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7. However, no serious warnings have been issued regarding these variants yet. Currently, the JN.1 variant is the most prevalent in India, detected in over 50% of samples during testing. This variant is reportedly persistent for several weeks and may weaken immunity.

State Government Preparedness and Appeals

Several states have appealed to the public to exercise caution in light of the rising number of cases. Rajasthan's Health Minister, Gajendra Singh Khimsar, stated that the current variant is not considered lethal and no new guidelines have been issued. Following a COVID-related death in Jaipur, authorities have been instructed to maintain calm and avoid spreading unnecessary fear.

COVID-19 Cases and Health Department Preparedness in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh has 30 active COVID-19 cases and has reported one death in Firozpur. The UP Health Department has issued a statement announcing merit-based recruitment for positions such as lab assistants, data analysts, and OT technicians to strengthen healthcare services.

COVID-19 Testing and Impact on Immunity

Experts say the JN.1 variant can weaken immunity. Therefore, wearing masks, handwashing, and avoiding crowded places are crucial. Doctors advise anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, cold, or cough to immediately consult a doctor and undergo a COVID-19 test.
