Mumbai Attacks Mastermind Tahawwur Rana Remanded Until June 2025

Tahawwur Rana: Tahawwur Rana, a key accused and mastermind in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, was produced before the Patiala House Court today. The court sent Rana to judicial custody until June 6, 2025. Rana was recently extradited from the United States to India. The NIA interrogated Rana in a closed-door session, collecting several written and voice samples.

Anticipation of Major Revelations, Investigation Continues

The NIA hopes to obtain crucial information from Rana regarding Pakistani handlers, funding sources, and potential sleeper cell networks. The NIA suspects Rana had deep connections with the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI. The court ordered the NIA to allow Rana a medical examination and lawyer visits every 24 hours.

Rana's Appearance Amidst Tight Security

Tight security arrangements were made during Rana's appearance in the Patiala House Court. Only relevant officials and lawyers were allowed entry into the courtroom, while media personnel were kept outside. Rana's face was covered while being presented in court.

Rana's Extradition from the United States

Rana was granted extradition approval by the US Supreme Court in 2023 and subsequently brought to India. This followed his conviction for his significant role in the conspiracy behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

The 2008 Mumbai attacks resulted in the deaths of 174 people and injuries to over 300. Rana played a key role in the conspiracy behind these attacks, carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba. While an Indian court convicted him in 2011, he remained in the US, engaging in legal battles until his extradition.
