Tharoor Rejects Trump's Claim of US Mediation in India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Shashi Tharoor Rejects Trump's Claim on India-Pakistan Ceasefire. He stated that India never sought US mediation. S. Jaishankar's contacts with other nations were standard diplomatic practice.

India Pakistan Ceasefire: The recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan has been a topic of discussion on social media. This is due to a claim by former US President Donald Trump, who stated that the ceasefire was facilitated by US mediation. However, India has categorically rejected this claim.

Trump's Claim: Ceasefire Due to US Intervention?

On Saturday, Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’ that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was reached after lengthy negotiations aided by the United States. Trump described the agreement as a US "achievement" and congratulated both countries.

Shashi Tharoor's Sharp Rebuttal to Trump

Congress leader and former Minister of State for External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor, reacted bly to Trump's statement. He clearly stated that India never requested mediation from any third country.

Tharoor said, "The claim that the US mediated between India and Pakistan is completely false. This was a standard diplomatic process, where both countries were in contact with foreign ministers of other nations. To call this mediation is an insult to India's foreign policy."

Jaishankar's Crucial Role

Shashi Tharoor also mentioned that India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, was in constant contact with the foreign ministers of the US, UAE, UK, and France. Similarly, Pakistan was also communicating with those countries.

This is a standard diplomatic communication process, where both sides clarify their positions on the global stage. This cannot be termed 'mediation' in any way.

India's Strong Response, Then the Ceasefire

On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, carrying out a significant military operation against 9 terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. In response, Pakistan launched over 400 drone attacks on India, which were thwarted by the Indian air defense system.

Following this military tension, India delivered another b response to Pakistan. The ceasefire came into effect only after Pakistan suffered heavy losses.
