Hindu Saint Chinmay Krishna Das Granted Bail in Bangladesh

Bangladesh: Hindu saint Chinmay Krishna Das has received significant relief after being granted bail by the Bangladesh High Court. He had been charged with treason and insulting the national flag. This has been confirmed by the Bangladeshi newspaper "The Daily Star."

The Allegations

Chinmay Krishna Das was accused of insulting the national flag of Bangladesh, leading to the treason charge. He was arrested at Dhaka airport on November 25th of the previous year and has since been embroiled in legal proceedings.

Court Proceedings and Bail Application

A lower court in Chittagong rejected his bail plea on January 2nd. Subsequently, he appealed to the High Court. The Bangladesh High Court had instructed the government to respond to the case within two weeks. Ultimately, the High Court ordered Das's release on bail, providing considerable relief.

Statement by Chinmay Krishna Das's Lawyer

Chinmay Krishna Das's lawyer, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, stated, "We informed the court that Chinmay Krishna Das respects his motherland as much as his mother and is not a traitor." However, the lower court dismissed these arguments and denied bail.

With the granting of bail, Chinmay Krishna Das is expected to find some relief in his legal proceedings. This case holds significance within Bangladesh's sensitive religious and political context, given the widespread public attention it has garnered.
