How the Accident Occurred

According to the San Diego Sheriff's Department, the accident happened during rough sea conditions. A doctor, who was hiking along the coast, witnessed CPR being administered on the beach and immediately notified emergency services.

Rescue Operation

The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation immediately following the accident, utilizing a 45-foot response boat and a helicopter. The rescue operation continued into Monday afternoon. Seventeen life jackets were recovered from the scene, suggesting a significant number of people were aboard the vessel, though the exact number remains unconfirmed.

The capsized boat has been identified as a 12-foot "panga" boat. These boats are commonly used for fishing but are also sometimes used in illegal smuggling operations.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that an Indian family was affected by the boat accident off the San Diego coast, with two Indian children missing.
