Gujarat Titans received welcome news for IPL 2025: veteran fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will be available for upcoming matches.
Sports News: Gujarat Titans received a major boost ahead of crucial IPL 2025 matches. South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been cleared to return to the field. After serving a temporary suspension for a drug-related offense, he has successfully completed a rehabilitation program, lifting the ban and allowing him to rejoin the Gujarat team.
Doping Case: Why not a longer ban?
Rabada abruptly left India citing personal reasons, raising questions among fans and cricket pundits. Initially considered a family or personal matter, it later emerged that he faced allegations of using banned substances. A dope test conducted during the SA20 tournament in January 2025 revealed the presence of substances including cocaine, MDMA, and cannabis.
Doping cases usually result in a four-year ban. However, Rabada proved the substance use occurred "out of competition" and wasn't intended to enhance performance. He also voluntarily participated in a drug treatment program and successfully completed two rehabilitation sessions mandated by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS). This paved the way for his return.
Rabada's IPL 2025 Performance So Far
Rabada played only two matches for Gujarat Titans this season. Against Punjab Kings, he took one wicket for 41 runs, and against Mumbai Indians, his performance was similarly modest, taking one wicket for 42 runs. He then unexpectedly left the team.
Rabada's return strengthens Gujarat Titans' pace bowling department, especially crucial as the team fights to remain in playoff contention. The team management has indicated Rabada might be included in the playing eleven for the upcoming match against Mumbai Indians.
