Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi stated that Indian Muslims are against terrorism, but they are repeatedly viewed with suspicion. He appealed to PM Modi to openly support them.

UP: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MLA Abu Asim Azmi has once again expressed concern over the current atmosphere in the country. He said that Indian Muslims have always stood against terrorism and anti-national activities, yet they continue to be viewed with suspicion. Azmi appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to publicly declare that Indian Muslims stand against terrorism and have always supported the nation.

Appreciation for the Army, but Focus on "Internal Matters" is Necessary

Abu Azmi stated that the 1.4 billion citizens of the country appreciate the bravery and dedication of the Indian Army. However, he expressed concern over the continuous questioning and targeting of Muslims within the country, often based on their religion. He said, "Everyone is proud of the Army, but the tendency to target Muslims within the country should also be addressed."

Expressing Displeasure, citing the Example of Colonel Sofia Qureshi

Abu Azmi, citing the example of Colonel Sofia Qureshi, a former army officer, highlighted how unnecessary controversies were created using her name. He claimed that at least 200 such cases have surfaced where ordinary Muslims have been targeted solely based on their religious identity. Azmi said, "When Kashmiri Muslims provide shelter to tourists in their homes, it demonstrates their loyalty to the nation. Yet, some people always view Muslims with suspicion."

Direct Appeal to PM Modi

Urging the Prime Minister, Abu Azmi said, "As the nation's Prime Minister, you should clearly state that Indian Muslims stand with the country and oppose terrorism. It's time to strengthen harmony and trust within the nation, not spread hatred against Muslims."

Need for Unity in a War-like Situation

Abu Azmi also stated that when the country faces a war-like situation at its borders, it is the duty of every Indian to stand with the government, the army, and national interest. He said, "Maintaining the morale of our soldiers at the borders should be the priority, not political rhetoric." He stated that he is not fully aware of the recent statements made by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Rahul Gandhi, but this is not the time for political debates.

"Not Politics, but Time to Stand with the Army"

Abu Azmi believes that national unity should be prioritized above politics at this time. He said, "This is the time to rise above our ideologies and politics and demonstrate solidarity with the Indian Army and the country. The army is securing the nation's borders in every situation, so the citizens should unite and support them."

Appeal to Understand the Role of Muslims

Abu Azmi also stated that Indian Muslims are not only patriots but also citizens who come forward to help during every disaster and crisis. He said, "We shouldn't have to repeatedly prove our patriotism, but when we are repeatedly targeted in the name of religion, it becomes necessary to raise our voice."
