BJP leader Amit Malviya claims WhatsApp chats reveal a fight between TMC MPs. Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad reportedly clashed with Kalyan Banerjee, causing the latter to cry.
West Bengal: Growing internal strife within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has become a major issue. The matter escalated after a public spat between two party MPs, Kalyan Banerjee and Mahua Moitra, further fueled by leaked WhatsApp chats and criticism from BJP leader Amit Malviya.
TMC MPs express concern over internal discord
Senior TMC leader and MP Saugata Roy expressed concern over the growing internal conflict within the party. He stated that the language used by Kalyan Banerjee and the leak of internal party chats were highly unfortunate.
Mamata Banerjee advises MPs to exercise restraint
Sources indicate that TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee advised party leaders to exercise restraint in their behavior and maintain truthful communication. BJP leader Amit Malviya, in his social media post, claimed that Kalyan Banerjee and Mahua Moitra engaged in a public altercation on April 4th, 2025, while submitting a memorandum at the Election Commission headquarters.
Mahua Moitra at the center of the controversy
Malviya cited video clips, stating that following the altercation between the two TMC MPs at the Election Commission premises, disgruntled MPs continued to target Mahua Moitra, who is considered an influential international figure.
Accusations and counter-accusations among MPs
Kalyan Banerjee accused both Saugata Roy and Mahua Moitra, claiming Roy was close to Saugata Dasmunshi and was seen accepting bribes in the Narada sting operation. Banerjee also accused Mahua Moitra of accepting gifts. Saugata Roy criticized Banerjee's unrestrained behavior, deeming it unacceptable. Roy added that he doesn't believe internal matters should be made public.
Mahua Moitra's altercation with Kalyan Banerjee
Saugata Roy stated he wasn't present during the initial altercation between Kalyan Banerjee and Mahua Moitra. Upon arriving later, he found Moitra crying and complaining to several MPs about Banerjee's behavior. Subsequently, several party MPs gathered and decided that Kalyan's behavior could no longer be tolerated. They decided to contact party supremo Mamata Banerjee.
Kalyan Banerjee's argument with MP Kirti Azad
Malviya's post also mentioned that TMC instructed MPs to gather at the Parliament office to sign the memorandum before going to the Election Commission. The dispute extended beyond this, spilling over into the AITC MP 2024 WhatsApp group. Kalyan Banerjee's use of certain words regarding an international woman led to an argument with MP Kirti Azad. Due to this heated debate among party MPs, the party's disciplinary committee meeting has been postponed.
