Uttarakhand Covid Case: The resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand has raised concerns within the health department, particularly as preparations for the 2025 Char Dham Yatra are underway. The emergence of new cases is considered a serious alert. Two COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Dehradun and Nainital districts, raising questions about the safety of pilgrims during the yatra.
New COVID-19 Cases in Uttarakhand; Health Department on Alert
Dr. Sunita Tamta, Director-General of Health Services, Uttarakhand, confirmed that both patients tested positive for COVID-19; however, these patients arrived from outside the state. Currently, there are no active cases within Uttarakhand, but these imported cases have put the administration on high alert. The health department has placed all districts on alert and is considering stricter enforcement of COVID-19 protocols.
Concerns Regarding Impact on Char Dham Yatra, but Yatra Continues
The Char Dham Yatra, encompassing Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri shrines, attracts millions of pilgrims annually. A large number of people are undertaking the pilgrimage this year. However, these new COVID-19 cases have increased concerns. The administration has clarified that there are currently no plans to halt the pilgrimage. Pilgrims are advised to exercise caution, including wearing masks, frequent handwashing, and avoiding crowded areas.
Instructions to Strengthen Health Facilities
The Uttarakhand government has instructed all districts to review COVID-19 testing and medical facilities within their respective areas. Health centers along the Char Dham Yatra routes are being fully activated to ensure prompt treatment in any emergency situation. Furthermore, the health department has stated that new guidelines for the yatra may be issued if COVID-19 cases increase.
Need to Revisit Old Corona Protocols
These new COVID-19 cases serve as a reminder that the pandemic is not yet over. The health department has appealed to pilgrims and locals to adhere to previous COVID-19 protocols, such as mask-wearing, social distancing, and regular handwashing. Those planning the Char Dham Yatra are advised to undergo health check-ups beforehand and maintain distance from crowded areas.
COVID-19 Situation Across the Country
COVID-19 cases are also being reported in other parts of the country. Approximately 277 cases have been reported so far from states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra. Although there are currently no local cases in Uttarakhand, the imported cases have put the health department on high alert.
