India Battles Extreme Weather: Heatwaves in North, Thunderstorms in East and Central

Weather patterns have shifted across most of India. While northern India is experiencing scorching heat and heatwaves, many parts of eastern and central India are under the threat of thunderstorms and rain.

Weather Update: India's weather has once again changed dramatically. While many states are grappling with intense heat and heatwaves, other regions face the threat of thunderstorms and rain. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a detailed weather forecast.

According to the forecast, temperatures will remain high in northern India, with heatwave conditions persisting. People are advised to remain vigilant. Heavy rain and b winds are predicted for southern and northeastern India.

Delhi-NCR: Drops of Relief Amidst the Heat

The capital city, Delhi, and its surrounding areas are experiencing extreme heat. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 42°C, while the minimum temperature will remain between 27-29°C. However, light rain or drizzle in some areas may provide partial relief. The meteorological department has advised citizens to avoid midday sun, wear loose and light clothing, and drink plenty of water.

Rajasthan: Red Alert, Heatwave Breaks Records

Rajasthan continues to grapple with a severe heatwave. Temperatures in cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Ganganagar could reach 46°C. A red alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for several districts in western Rajasthan. The health department has advised people to avoid going outdoors between 12 pm and 4 pm. However, light rain is possible in parts of Kota and Udaipur divisions.

UP-Bihar: Heatwave Coupled with Thunderstorm Threat

Uttar Pradesh is experiencing intense heat. Temperatures in Lucknow, Kanpur, and Prayagraj could reach 44°C. Cloudy skies and light rain are predicted for cities like Gorakhpur and Varanasi in eastern UP. In Bihar, cities like Bhagalpur, Patna, and Gaya could see temperatures up to 42°C. The state's northern and eastern parts are under a warning for winds of 30-40 km/h and thunderstorms.

Jharkhand: Cloudy Skies, High Wind Alert

Jharkhand is expected to see a change in weather on May 18. Light to moderate rain is possible in cities like Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad. The meteorological department has issued an alert for b winds (30-40 km/h). Temperatures will remain between 35-39°C. Farmers and the general public are advised to plan their activities accordingly.

Himachal-Uttarakhand: Hailstorm Probability

The hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will also experience volatile weather. Strong winds, rain, and hailstorms are likely in Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, and Sirmaur. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas. Light rain with thunderstorms is expected in the mountainous districts of Uttarakhand, while Dehradun and Haridwar will continue to experience heatwave conditions.

Maharashtra and MP: Thunderstorms and Rain

Moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected in Konkan, Pune, Nashik, and Mumbai in Maharashtra. Temperatures are likely to remain between 32-36°C. Strong winds (40-50 km/h) are possible in coastal areas. Light rain and thunderstorms are also predicted for Indore, Bhopal, and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

South India: Relieving Rains

Good rainfall is expected in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala in South India. Heavy rainfall is also forecast for Mizoram, Tripura, and Assam in the northeastern states. Warnings have been issued for lightning and landslides in these states.
