Sports News: Pakistan women's cricket team stalwart, Nida Dar, has announced a temporary break from the sport. Having amassed over 250 international wickets and more than 3000 runs in a stellar career, Dar cited personal and mental health reasons for her decision. This announcement has surprised fans, as she has long been a b pillar of Pakistan women's cricket.

Information Shared via Social Media

Nida Dar shared an emotional post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), writing, "The past few months have presented several ups and downs in my life, both personally and professionally, impacting my mental health. I have decided to take a break from cricket to prioritize myself and my mental well-being." She added, "During this time, I request everyone to respect my privacy." Dar did not specify the length of her break, leading to much speculation among fans.

Impact on Pakistan Team Schedule

The Pakistan women's team has crucial tournaments in the coming months. In August 2025, they are scheduled to play a T20 series against Ireland, followed by the Women's World Cup 2025 in India in September. Pakistan recently qualified for this major tournament through the World Cup qualifiers.

However, sources suggest Dar's chances of selection for the World Cup were already slim. According to ESPNcricinfo, considering her age and recent fitness issues, the team management is focusing on future plans. The report also claims that Dar failed a fitness test earlier this year.

Struggling with a Decline in Performance

Nida Dar's recent form is also considered a significant factor in her decision. Her last international match for Pakistan was in October 2024 against New Zealand in Dubai. Since then, she hasn't appeared in the National Women's T20 tournament. Her performance with both bat and ball has lacked its former brilliance.

Nida Dar is considered a valuable asset to Pakistan women's cricket. She has played 112 ODIs for Pakistan, taking 108 wickets and scoring 1690 runs. In T20 Internationals, she has taken 144 wickets, placing her among the world's top bowlers, and also scored 2091 runs. She holds the record for the most T20I wickets taken for Pakistan.

Following Nida Dar's announcement, fans and fellow players have expressed their support on social media, wishing her a speedy recovery and return. Praising her honesty and courage, fans have written that prioritizing mental health is paramount, and Dar's decision is inspirational.
