Nagal and Bopanna Suffer Ranking Slumps in Latest ATP Update

The latest ATP rankings for 2025 bring disappointing news for Indian tennis fans. Two prominent players, Sumit Nagal and Rohan Bopanna, have experienced significant drops in their rankings.

Sports News: Due to recent underwhelming performances on the ATP circuit, Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal has suffered a substantial fall in his singles ranking. He has plummeted 63 places to 233rd, his worst ranking in the past two years. Nagal has been struggling for form and consistently exiting tournaments in early rounds, resulting in this ranking setback.

Meanwhile, veteran doubles player Rohan Bopanna, at 45 years of age, has fallen out of the ATP doubles top 50 for the first time in 15 years. Bopanna has long been India's most reliable doubles player, and this decline is attributed to age and limited success in recent tournaments.

Sumit Nagal: From Highs to a Dip in Form

The 27-year-old Sumit Nagal's career trajectory is currently on a downward trend. Last year (July 2024), he achieved a career-best ranking of 68th. At that time, Nagal was considered India's next big singles star. However, consistent poor performances since the beginning of 2025 have seen him plummet 142 places to 233rd.

He previously fell out of the top 200 in July 2023, reaching 231st, but subsequently staged a b comeback—a scenario that currently appears unlikely.

Rohan Bopanna: Aging Champion's Pace Slows

For the 45-year-old Rohan Bopanna, this year has been a mixture of highs and lows. In January 2024, he achieved a historic number 1 world ranking in doubles, becoming the oldest number 1 doubles player in ATP history. However, according to the latest 2025 rankings, Bopanna has slipped 20 places to 53rd.

This marks the first time in 15 years he has been outside the top 50. For Bopanna, this indicates that while his experience remains valuable, maintaining pace with the intense competition while managing age is proving challenging.
