Complaint Against Chhaya Kadam: Bollywood actress Chhaya Kadam, known for her roles in films like Lapta Ladies, Madgaon Express, and All We Imagine As Light, is facing a serious controversy. She is accused of consuming the meat of wild animals, prompting a Mumbai-based animal rights organization to file a complaint against her. The case has reached the Forest Department, and the actress has been summoned to give a statement.

What is the Full Story?

In a recent social media interview, actress Chhaya Kadam reportedly stated that she had consumed the meat of several protected wild animals, including deer, porcupine, rabbit, wild boar, and monitor lizards. This statement has caused her trouble, as it may violate the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the Biodiversity Act, 2002.

Following this statement, animal rights organizations reacted bly and filed complaints against the actress. Prominent NGOs like the Plant and Animal Welfare Society, OIPA, and Amma Care Foundation have demanded action against Chhaya Kadam. These organizations argue that such statements are irresponsible and could endanger the safety of wildlife.

Forest Department Orders Statement

Based on these complaints, the Maharashtra Forest Department has summoned Chhaya Kadam to appear before the Deputy Conservator of Forests in Thane to give a statement. Strict action may be taken under the Wildlife Protection Act, as hunting protected species and consuming their meat is illegal. NGO activist Sunish N. Kunju stated that if actors and celebrities make such statements, it sends the wrong message to society and could increase illegal hunting in forests. Such statements can adversely impact wildlife safety and conservation.

Questions Raised by NGOs

NGO activists also questioned whether it is not the responsibility of actors to give the right message on their public platforms, especially when they are role models for a large section of society. They say that Chhaya Kadam's statement reflects a careless attitude towards wildlife conservation and cannot be ignored.

Furthermore, this case has sparked discussions about the stringency of the Wildlife Protection Act. Violating laws enacted for the protection of biodiversity and wildlife can result in severe penalties and punishment.

Actress Yet to Respond

Currently, Chhaya Kadam has not issued any public response to this matter. She has remained silent since the complaint was filed against her. It remains to be seen whether the actress clarifies her position and whether the Forest Department takes further action.
