Mahagathbandhan Meeting in Patna Signals Tejashwi Yadav as Potential CM Candidate

A significant meeting of the Mahagathbandhan (INDIA alliance) was held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at a resort located on the Digha-Ashiana Road in Patna, Bihar, in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections.

Bihar Politics: Bihar's political landscape has once again heated up. The Mahagathbandhan's strategic preparations for the upcoming assembly elections have created a buzz in political circles. While representatives from all participating parties attended the meeting held at a private venue on Patna's Ashiana-Digha Road, the banner displayed at the venue and its political implications drew significant attention. The banner featuring only the image of Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav is being interpreted as a signal regarding the alliance's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections.

Tejashwi Yadav's Image on the Banner: Consensus on CM Candidature?

The meeting saw participation from top leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, Left parties, and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP). However, the most significant observation was the banner at the meeting venue, which displayed the electoral symbols of various parties but featured only Tejashwi Yadav's photograph. This has sparked discussions among political analysts about whether the Mahagathbandhan has officially declared Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial face.

Although no leader has officially commented on this, sources within the RJD suggest that most alliance partners seem to agree on Tejashwi Yadav's candidature. Notably, Tejashwi Yadav himself chaired the meeting, signifying the acceptance of his leadership.

India Shutdown Announcement: Opposition's Show of Strength

During the meeting, CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya announced a nationwide shutdown (Bharat Bandh) on May 20th. This shutdown will address the concerns of laborers, farmers, and common citizens. The Mahagathbandhan aims to demonstrate its unity against the perceived "anti-people" policies of the central and state governments through this shutdown.

Congress and VIP Deliver Strong Messages

Speaking at the meeting, Congress Legislature Party leader Dr. Shakil Ahmad Khan stated that the current state government is implementing anti-people policies, which the Congress will oppose at every level. He added that the meeting decided to expose the government's policies by reaching out to the public. VIP party chief Mukesh Sahni emphatically declared that the time has come to overthrow this government. He asserted that his party will contest the elections with full force to form a Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar.

The meeting also discussed the preparation of a joint manifesto for the upcoming elections, encompassing the interests of all sections of society. Plans for a joint campaign, shared platforms, and joint rallies were also formulated to convey a message of unity to the voters.
