Muskaan, an accused in the infamous “Blue Drum Case,” has expressed her desire to pursue an LLB degree while in jail, aiming to represent herself in court. She has requested the jail administration for the syllabus and relevant information.
New Delhi: Muskaan, an accused in the much-discussed “Blue Drum Case” of Meerut, is once again in the news. This time, it's not due to the murder case itself, but a new ambition. Muskaan wants to become a lawyer and represent herself in court. She has requested the jail administration for the LLB (Bachelor of Laws) syllabus and related study materials. The jail administration is considering whether to grant her this higher education opportunity.
Muskaan stated – No one will fight my case the way I want to
In conversations with the jail administration, Muskaan expressed her belief that no lawyer could fight her case as effectively as she could. Therefore, she has decided to represent herself in court. According to Dr. Virendra Raj Sharma, the senior superintendent of the jail, Muskaan formally requested the syllabus and details of the LLB program. Currently, the legal and technical aspects of her request are being reviewed.
Muskaan's Education – Studied up to Class 9, a long way to go
Muskaan has currently completed only her ninth grade. If she wishes to become a lawyer, she faces a long academic journey. To pursue an LLB, she must first complete her high school (10th grade) and intermediate (12th grade) education. Afterward, she can enroll in a five-year LLB program.
Meerut jail currently offers high school and intermediate level education through IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University). However, providing access to a professional course like LLB presents a new challenge for the jail administration. Officials state that if Muskaan is serious about her studies, she must first complete her basic education before pursuing an LLB.
Jail administration is considering the request, permission for studies may be granted
The jail administration is considering Muskaan's request. Senior officials say that granting higher education to any prisoner requires careful consideration of legal and administrative aspects. If permitted under the rules, Muskaan may be given the option to study through IGNOU or another open university.
Muskaan's Case: Reliance solely on a government lawyer
Currently, Muskaan does not have a private lawyer; her case is being handled by a government lawyer. Meanwhile, Saahil's family, her co-accused, visits her regularly in jail and has arranged for a private lawyer for him. Dr. Sharma, the senior superintendent of the jail, stated that no family member has visited Muskaan.
The Blue Drum Case
Muskaan's case garnered national attention. She is accused, along with her lover Saahil, of murdering her husband, Saurabh Rajput. Following the murder, the body was dismembered and placed in a blue drum. They then fled to Shimla. During this time, several videos of Saahil and Muskaan surfaced online, showing them consuming drugs and partying. A video of them dancing during Holi further sensationalized the case.
Muskaan's pregnancy revealed in jail
A significant development occurred when Muskaan's medical examination in jail revealed she was pregnant. She was taken to a government hospital for further medical tests, including an ultrasound, confirming her pregnancy. This news added another layer to the already highly publicized case.
