Following a meeting with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), the party has requested the Delhi mayor to withdraw the user charge, considering the convenience of the public. Questions Raised on the 'Triple Engine' Government
Virendra Sachdeva stated in a press conference that while Delhi has a 'Triple Engine' government, several questions have been raised regarding the corporation's mismanagement over the past two and a half years. He explained that the corporation imposed user charges without any discussion with the public, which was inappropriate. He urged the Delhi mayor to improve the system for the convenience of the public to avoid any inconvenience.
User Charges to be Withdrawn; Relief for the Public
Virendra Sachdeva clearly stated that user charges will no longer be levied in Delhi and will be withdrawn soon. He mentioned that detailed discussions will be held with RWAs to understand how to implement Solid Waste Management (SWM) effectively. He also added that an appropriate decision will be made regarding those who have already paid the user charges.
General Amnesty Scheme for House Tax
House tax in Delhi has also been a significant problem. Since 2004, tax bills have been irregularly sent in many areas, causing distress to the public. Many bills sent were completely incorrect, resulting in people paying excessive taxes. Keeping this in mind, a General Amnesty Scheme is now being introduced, offering relief only to those who pay their taxes.
The aim of this scheme is to prevent tax evasion and irregular billing and to make the tax system more transparent. It will also provide an opportunity for those who have not yet paid their taxes to clear their outstanding dues without penalties or additional charges.
Mayor's Statement and Meeting with RWAs
Delhi's Mayor, Raja Iqbal Singh, also issued a statement on this matter. He explained that the state president and the mayor jointly discussed the removal of user charges with the RWAs. He stated that people are willing to pay, but they need proper service and facilities. Discussions were also held with officials to avoid imposing user charges and to stop bills issued by private companies.
