India Reports 685 New COVID-19 Cases, 4 Deaths; Active Cases Rise to 3395

Corona Update: India is witnessing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases. According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, as of 8:00 AM on May 31, 2025, there are 3395 active cases in the country. 685 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, with 4 fatalities. While 1435 patients recovered and were discharged during the same period, the rising numbers are cause for concern.

Where are the new cases being reported?

New cases are emerging across various states. Kerala reported the highest number of new cases with 189. Karnataka reported 86, West Bengal 89, Delhi 81, and Uttar Pradesh 75. Other states reporting new cases include Tamil Nadu (37), Maharashtra (43), Gujarat (42), and Rajasthan (9).

Several states reported fewer cases: Puducherry (6), Madhya Pradesh (6), Haryana (6), Jharkhand (6), Odisha (2), Jammu & Kashmir (2), Chhattisgarh (3), Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, and Goa (1 each).

States with the Highest Number of Active Cases:

Several states continue to have a significant number of active cases. Kerala has the highest number with 1336 active cases. Maharashtra has 467, Delhi 375, Karnataka 234, West Bengal 205, Tamil Nadu 185, and Uttar Pradesh 117 active cases.

Government Response and Guidelines

The Ministry of Health has instructed all states to remain on high alert and increase testing. The government has urged citizens to get tested even with mild symptoms and to follow COVID-appropriate behavior (CAB).

Karnataka Government Issues Circular

In light of the rising COVID-19 cases and the reopening of schools, the Karnataka government has issued a circular following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 26, 2025. The circular directs parents not to send children to school if they exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough, cold, or other COVID-like symptoms.

Parents are urged to send their children to school only after they have fully recovered. Schools are instructed to immediately inform parents and send home any child exhibiting such symptoms.

Alert for Teachers and Staff

The circular also applies to teachers and non-teaching staff. Anyone exhibiting COVID-like symptoms is advised to immediately follow COVID-appropriate behavior.

The government has suggested specific precautions for schools:

  • Maintain hand hygiene.
  • Practice cough and sneeze etiquette.
  • Avoid crowding and wear masks when necessary.

Caution remains the best defense against COVID-19. Citizens are advised to:
